The talk(you out of it)band

The Huawei talkband

Hey readers, have you seen the Huawei talkband that was presented yesterday at the MWC?
Have you?

"This thing is a Frankenstein... It feels like an April Fool's joke." as some commenter in the relative Engadget article gently put it.

My thoughts

BT headset detached
Let me tell you how i feel about it.
First of all it is ugly as sin. And this is a strictly personal opinion.
It is too bulky and this is something that could have been totally avoided if only there was no detachable BT headset. Why make this detachable dear Huawei engineers? Is there any apparent reason for that? I mean why not do it the Gear way? Just lift the "talkband" towards our mugs and talk? Sounds bad? Uhmmm... well, how about this?

Scenario 1:

Phone rings. The talkband vibrates and you are alerted. You then detach the headset paying attention not to drop it on the street and fuss around while trying to align it the right way so that it plugs into your ear canal.

Scenario 2:

Phone rings. The talkband vibrates and you are alerted. You then take the phone out of your pocket and talk.

What would you choose? For God's sake tell me what would you choose?

Let me move on to the other big issue i see. The orientation of the screen is landscape, whereas the band is supposed to be vertically positioned on someone's (not mine - that is for sure) wrist. Do you see what i am talking about?

Last but not least, this thing looks like it is quite enormous in size. Did i also mention it is as ugly as it is big?

On the bright side, the price seems to be good. The promised battery life is good. The charger plug embedded on the plug is certainly good. Plus, Huawei has actually tried to innovate with the whole detachable headset idea, even though i do not like it and it seems to me that it is poorly designed.

All in all, i suggest that you wait for the Razer Nabu before forking out your hard earned cash.
